Private Continues IPTV Strategy in Europe With 9 New Deals

BARCELONA — Private Media Group continues its bet on the IPTV platform as it signed content deals with nine additional European operators in the Netherlands, Italy, Poland, Denmark, Portugal and Greece.

With this week’s announcement, Private now has 32 agreements in 11 countries in place that offer Internet protocol TV-based video-on-demand.

Spokesman Peter Cohen said that Private is committed to IPTV in Europe and believes that it will be the TV delivery platform of choice for the pay-TV consumer.

“Private is committed to being the global leader in adult digital content distribution and our success expanding into the fast growing IPTV platform market in Europe confirms our long-term strategy for the company,” he said.

Europe continues to be the biggest market for IPTV, with France significantly leading the growth, according to a recent study by Multimedia Research Group.

The number of IPTV subscribers in Europe is forecasted to grow from approximately 4 million in 2006 to 27.5 million by 2011, an annual growth rate of 47 percent.

The number of global IPTV subscribers worldwide is estimated to grow from 8 million in 2006 to 63.6 million by 2011, Multimedia Research said.
