Lioness' Liz Klinger's 'Mask Match' Org Delivers 300K Masks to Healthcare Workers

OAKLAND, Calif. — Lioness’ Liz Klinger and her organization Mask Match have delivered over 300,000 masks directly to healthcare professionals on the frontlines of the fight against COVID-19, and she thinks they could reach 1,000,000 masks with the support of donors.

“Anyone can be a hero with Mask Match,” Klinger said. “If you have spare masks, you can sign up on our website to donate them. It only takes a few minutes to complete the form, and from there, our team of over 280 volunteers will match you with a healthcare professional in your state. The process is simple, and all happens without leaving your home. This display of generosity from perfect strangers has amounted to the mobilization of over 300,000 masks that would have otherwise not reached healthcare professionals — and will keep more people alive.”

Started three weeks ago by Klinger and Chloe Alpert, Mask Match is a tool for people with spare personal protective equipment (PPE) and helps them send these vital supplies directly to the hands of healthcare workers on the COVID-19 front lines.

Due to a nationwide shortage, many institutions are limiting the number of masks given to healthcare professionals. Mask Match is filling the gap with local, existing supplies, without impact to the standard supply chain.

“At its core, Mask Match is about connecting people to save lives,” Alpert said. “When we started initial talks about the project, we realized that masks sitting in people’s homes could be mobilized quickly to be sent into the hands of healthcare workers — sometimes in the same day,” Alpert explained. “Our focus is on individuals at midsize and smaller hospitals, clinics, EMS, urgent care, and nursing homes around the country that simply don’t have the same resources and donations as the larger hospitals.”
