Southern States Top Google Searches for 'Porn' in Last 15 Years

CYBERSPACE — Mississippi, West Virginia, Louisiana and Kentucky are the U.S. states that have Googled the word “porn” the most in the period 2004-2019, according to Google Trends statistics.

While many people are puzzled about the popularity of certain highly specific genres of adult content, a 15-year search of the Google Trends database shows that Southern states might account for the high demand for material that appeals to regional taboos.

The Top 10 is:

1. Mississippi
2. West Virginia
3. Louisiana
4. Kentucky
5. New Mexico
6. Arkansas
7. Kansas
8. Nevada
9. Oklahoma
10. Wyoming

Arkansas and New Mexico often switch between 4th and 5th place.

Overall, more populated states show less interest in Googling "porn," with Texas (#11), Michigan (#15), Illinois (#20), Florida (#30), California (#35) and New York (#43) not making the Top Ten.

Last on the list are Massachusetts, Oregon and Utah.

In terms of specific porn genre searches in the top five U.S. states between 2004-2019, there are some interesting peculiarities.

Mississippi:

West Virginia:

Louisiana:

Kentucky:

New Mexico:

“Ebony,” a euphemism for content featuring African-American women, is a popular search in Mississippi and Louisiana and a "rising" one in Kentucky, although Google categorizes the term as “Plants,” due to its more literal botanic definition.

The all-state popularity of searches for “Pornhub” reaffirms its brand dominance in the U.S. “Mobile porn” is also a widespread search, confirming smartphones as the preferred device for adult content consumption.

"Gay," "Cartoon," “High Definition,” “MILF” and “Big Beautiful Women” are also popular search terms among the top five states, according to Google Trends. Mia Khalifa remains in the 15-year top U.S. trend list 4 years after her retirement from active adult performance.
