Platinum Bucks Donates $10,000 to FSC

TORONTO — Last week, affiliate program Platinum Bucks donated $10,000 to the Free Speech Coalition, in order to help fund legal efforts against the second phase of 2257 record-keeping requirements.

Platinum Bucks’ gift was in response to AdultFriendFinder.com’s fundraising campaign promising to match any donations up to the amount of $10,000, launched in mid-June.

“AdultFriendFinder came out of the woodwork and offered to do this fundraiser for us,” Duke told XBIZ. “Then here comes Platinum Bucks, offering to support us in this important work that we’re doing with 2257. Both of these companies have been tremendously generous and understand how important this effort is.”

Platinum Bucks’ Platinum Dave said that he is thankful to AdultFriendFinder for putting up the $10,000 grant. He encouraged other companies to join in the efforts to support the FSC.

FSC serves as a trade organization and the adult industry’s first line of legal defense. They successfully challenged the original provision of 2257 that required secondary producers to acquire and maintain records of every performer in any sexually explicit image.

As reported by XBIZ in a previous article , Congress recently made revisions to the bill, as part of the Adam Walsh Child Protection Act. Once implemented, the new changes will require secondary producers to maintain records and be subjected to potential inspection by the FBI.

According to Duke, the Justice Department will issue revised regulations putting the changes into effect, sometime this year. The changes are spurring renewed efforts by the FSC on behalf of the adult industry.

“I think the content producers are acutely aware of the dangers of 2257, especially as more and more inspections come out,” Duke said. “Everything we’ve heard is that the inspections are going to increase, not decrease. Every time somebody is inspected, people get more and more concerned. And we’re here to be the watchdog for the industry and we’re here to protect adult.”

All donations made to the FSC earmarked for 2257 litigation go to funding the legal process.

“When you put money towards 2257 — that process is a very expensive process and we’re paying for that,” Duke said. “Anyone that has ever filed a lawsuit knows what I’m talking about. It doesn’t come cheap, but it’s absolutely necessary.”
