PornHub Bans AI-Generated Fake Porn Videos

BURBANK, Calif. — PornHub plans on deleting AI-generated videos that realistically edit new faces onto adult performers.

Under rules against the posting of “nonconsensual porn,” PornHub will now scrub “deepfakes” that have been photoshopped and uploaded.

To create deepfakes, users take existing video footage and employ a machine-learning algorithm — perhaps using the app called FakeApp. The algorithm is able to take the face and seamlessly paste it onto the body of a porn performer.

Oftentimes, the resulting videos — many of which involve celebrities — are nearly indecipherable from reality. And in many cases, the practice borders on copyright infringement or defamation.

PornHub’s move on Tuesday follows in the footsteps of Discord and Gfycat, which both purged deepfakes creations from their sites last week. PornHub said that it would take down the fake videos once they are flagged by users.

“We do not tolerate any nonconsensual content on the site, and we remove all said content as soon as we are made aware of it,” PornHub officials told Motherboard.

"Nonconsensual content directly violates our [terms of service] and consists of content such as revenge porn, deepfakes or anything published without a person’s consent or permission.”
