TEXXXAS Announces New Location for Houston Convention

HOUSTON — The organizer for Houston adult entertainment convention TEXXXAS has found a new home — its third in as many weeks.

TEXXXAS, scheduled to run Aug. 17-20, will be held at Cover Girls Houston, an adult night club located at 10310 W Little York Rd. in Houston.

The inaugural TEXXXAS had been beleaguered in finding a spot for its convention after venue contracts with two hotels were cancelled.

TEXXXAS woes over shut-downs started July 21 when organizer John Gray said he received an email from the first venue, Hilton Houston Galleria Area Hotel, saying the hotel wanted to cancel the contract with the adult conference.

Gray then found another host hotel — the Holiday Inn Southwest in nearby Sugar Land, Texas. But that hotel had since reconsidered.

Behind the conference cancellations is a Washington, D.C., organization, the National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE), which claims in various statements on its site that it pressured the hotels to stop hosting the adult conference.

Gray told XBIZ that the organization had not reached out to him.

Gray on Tuesday held a press conference with local media over the announcement of the new venue and to discuss the actions of Washington-based NCOSE.

“People who attend our events do it by choice,” Gray said. “I don’t appreciate groups like NCOSE sticking their nose into my business. It’s been a time of confusion.”

Gray was joined at the podium with Adam & Eve franchise owner Bob Struther, who operates three stores in the Houston area.

Gray noted that even though Cover Girls allows full nudity in the evening, it won’t be allowed during the convention’s day hours.

Cover Girls is located about 16 miles from the original Hilton and Holiday Inn locations.
