Industry Veteran Larry Field Passes Away

LOS ANGELES — Larry Field, who worked in adult for more than 30 years as both a sales manager and studio owner, passed away Wednesday.

His son Scott Field told XBIZ his father had lung cancer and kidney failure and was 17 years removed from a heart transplant.

"The last 13 months were tough on him but he is in a much better place now," Scott said. "He was married to my mom for 51 years. She was the love of his life and really took care of him for the last 13 months. They loved Vegas, that was their getaway."

Larry Field started in the adult industry in 1982 with Arrow Productions, where he worked as the sales manager for a few years before he opened R.S.V.P. After a fire destroyed the company he went to work for Essex Video and then for Russ Hampshire at VCA Pictures.

"That was fun for him as his two best friends worked there, Marty Turkel and Ed Kail," Scott continued. "He left VCA and opened Pipeline Video which was a great one-stop distributior; and then he opened Fat Dog Productions."

Larry sold the company and retired in 2004 for health reasons.

"He loved the adult industry. He had so many friends," Scott said. "He loved going to the shows. He loved the people and I know he will be missed by many.

"I have had many calls over the last few days and my family and I want to thank everyone for all the kind words. It really makes me feel good. We will be having a gathering to celebrate his life in a few weeks and I hope everyone will be there. I will keep everyone posted."

Howard Levine, the president of sales at Exile Distribution, told XBIZ Friday Field was "one of the originals."

"He was one of the trio — the Marty Turkel, the Ed Kail and the Larry Field trio. A really good guy that loved his family and loved this business," Levine said. "And he loved golf. Although he wasn’t very good at golf. But he’ll be sorely missed and my condolences to the family.”
