Hungary Gets IPTV, Cable Adult Content Network

BUDAPEST, Hungary — LUXx Video, an established Hungarian adult production company, has said it will launch LUXx TV, the company’s Internet Protocol TV and cable distribution arm.

LUXx Video, which is owned by Hungarian adult filmmaker Istvan Kovacs, has a 15-year production history, making adult films primarily for the Western European market.

Officials at LUXx TV said the channel, which will be available both through IPTV and cable, plans to broadcast 24-hour programming. Consumers who buy the package also will gain access to an adult website.

To get the deal off the ground Kovacs partnered with Hungarian TV network Kft. According to a Daily Variety report, LUXx TV marks the first serious attempt to operate a domestic adult channel fueled by local talent, despite Hungary’s long tradition of producing softcore and hardcore films for other countries.

Last year, the only real competitor to LUXx TV, Private Gold, went off the air. The erotic network, which beamed adult content throughout the region, used the Travel Channel’s signal on a number of Hungarian cable systems during the late night hours.

LUXx TV will launch in January.
