FDA Warns of Penis Pills VMaxx, Boost, Firminite

WASHINGTON — The Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday posted additional advisories warning consumers about three more sexual enhancement products.

Boost — Ultra Sexual Enhancement Formula, VMaxx Rx and Firminite have joined seven other sexual enhancement products posted on the FDA's public notification advisory list in the past two months.

The drugs, available online, contain hidden drug ingredients, primarily Viagra or Cialis.

FDA spokeswoman Siobhan DeLancey recently told XBIZ that the regulatory agency in recent years has found more penis pills on the market to investigate.

DeLancey said that consumers sometimes get seven times the dose in approved sexual enhancement products with some of the illegal pills. She also noted that many of the chemicals found are analogs of the pharmaceutical ingredients in the approved products.

"The analogs have never been tested, and because of that we don't know if they present additional risks," she said.

The blacklisted drugs may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs such as nitroglycerin and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels. Men with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart disease often take nitrates.

Consumers are advised to stop using the product immediately and throw them away.
