James Glasscock Joins Playboy’s VOD Division

LOS ANGELES — James Glasscock recently joined Playboy Entertainment Group as vice president of video-on-demand. The new hire comes less than a month after the softcore giant said it had signed an agreement with Comcast for distribution of its movies on Comcast's VOD platforms and of Playboy TV as a subscription VOD service.

According to officials at Playboy, Glasscock will manage all aspects of the company’s growing VOD business, signing new distribution partners and spearheading other business growth related specifically to Playboy’s VOD product line.

Based in Playboy’s Los Angeles Media Center Office, Glasscock will report to Ned Nalle, president of programming.

“As overall consumer awareness and usage of VOD continues to increase, it is our job…to make sure we are offering the best possible on-demand solutions to our cable and satellite partners,” said Nalle. “James is joining us to make sure we optimize our on-demand strategy.”

Glasscock comes to Playboy with an extensive background in VOD technologies within the mainstream market. He was previously the director of new media business development at Turner Broadcasting, where he developed extensive distribution agreements across broadband, VOD, interactive/enhanced television and wireless platforms. He also developed and launched advertising-supported VOD for CNN, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, TBS and TNT on Comcast and Time Warner Cable.

“The power of the Playboy brand combined with high quality content and a massive historical library provides an extraordinary opportunity for many new media platforms,” said Glasscock of the new position. “I am looking forward to using my skills and knowledge to further develop Playboy’s VOD businesses.”
