2009 Masturbate-A-Thon Set for Tomorrow

SAN FRANCISCO — The Center for Sex & Culture will hold its 10th annual fundraising Masturbate-A-Thon event tomorrow.

The event showcasing solo sexuality is sponsored by sex novelty shop Good Vibrations and set to take place at the CSC suites and adjacent theater, located at 1519 Mission St.

Good Vibrations staff sexologist and CSC co-founder/executive director Carol Queen will host the event and anchor its live webcast alongside celebrity hosts Sister Roma of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence Inc., performance artist Kirk Read and BBW adult star April Flores.

Unvanilla.com is sponsoring the live Internet streaming feed and selling Masturbate-A-Thon and Unvanilla T-shirts to bring additional sources of donations to the CSC. Adult sex toy distributors Lelo and Tenga also are sponsoring the event.

Competitors looking to beat the current record of masturbating for more than nine hours, 33 minutes for males and seven hours, six minutes for females can begin the contest at 11 a.m.

Non-competing masturbators also are welcome for a minimum pledge of $20, as are voyeurs that can watch the event in shifts. The first seating at $15 per ticket is good for the first half of the event and after 4 p.m., tickets are $25.

Good Vibrations will show its Independent Erotic Film Festival selections twice — one per voyeur seating, scheduled for 2:30 and 6 p.m.

Other entertainment includes singer/songwriter Mark Growden, adult performer and show tune parodist Tom Orr, author/performance artist Kirk Read, dance instructor and expert pole dancer Catherine Rose from Slinky Productions and Fellatio Brown of Boylesque, San Francisco's male burlesque troupe.

The event is expected to last until approximately 9 p.m. and will be webcast live at Masturbate-a-thon.com from 4-9 p.m.

According to the company, Good Vibrations started the Maturbate-A-Thon in 1998 after introducing Masturbation Month in 1995 as a protest to then-President Bill Clinton’s firing of Surgeon General Dr. Joycelyn Elders, a supporter of self-stimulation.
