Eros Association Launches Political Party

DEAKIN WEST, Australia — The Eros Association, Australia’s adult industry trade association, has launched a new political party in response to the increasing influence of religious groups in Australia's politics and government.

The Australian Sex Party plans to be official by this Friday, with 500 registered members and sanction by the Australian Electoral Commission.

Eros Association CEO Fiona Patten said the party hoped to win seats in state upper houses and the national Senate using the slogan "We're Serious About Sex."

"We're hoping for at least one Senate seat in the next federal election," Patten said.

A list received by XBIZ from the Eros Association enumerates the policies on the Sex Party's agenda:

To bring about the establishment of a truly national classification scheme which includes a uniform nonviolent erotica rating for explicit adult material for all jurisdictions and through all media including the Internet.

To enact national antidiscrimination laws making it illegal to unfairly discriminate against people or companies on the basis of job, occupation, profession or calling.

Creating mandatory equal numbers of women in the Senate and State Upper Houses.

Ending the tax-exempt status for religions.

To enact national pregnancy termination laws along the same lines as divorce law which allows for legal, no-fault and guilt-free process for women seeking termination.

The listing of Viagra, Cialis and other drugs used to treat sexual dysfunction, on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme .

Legal same-sex marriages and total equal rights in all areas of the law for gay, lesbian and transsexual couples.

New approaches to tackling child pornography and the sexualization of children.

The introduction of adequate paid maternity leave that is fair to small business.

Abolishing sex slavery and sexual servitude by introducing non-morality based policies.

Overturning racist laws that ban Aboriginal people from possessing X rated films in the Northern Territories.

Ensuring the sexual rights and freedoms of the disabled and elderly in institutions.

Convening a Royal Commission into child sex abuse in the nation’s religious institutions.

Development of a national sex education curriculum for schools.
