WIA Profile: Alicia Sinclair

With a hands-on, go-getter approach, she Alicia Sinclair has progressed through 10 years in various segments of the industry. Empowered by knowledge and experience, Sinclair is familiar with retail success. As national sales director of the newly formed Baci Lingerie USA, Sinclair says she’s landed her dream job and by wearing various hats, is developing a U.S. invasion of the “affordable luxury” brand.

What is your role and responsibility as national sales director for Baci Lingerie USA?

In the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

My roles and responsibility as national sales director includes new business development, hiring and training our sales/customer service staff, creating merchandising programs, working directly with our corporate office to create marketing plans, trade show representation, and well — keeping everybody happy.

How did you get into the business?

I was hired as an administrative assistant for an adult production company. I was planning on going back to school, but little by little I started taking on more responsibility and then the adult business became my business. I worked hard, always did my very best, and after 10 years in the industry I have my dream job.

How has your previous experience prepared you for your current position?

Working with a production company, selling adult toys and now as national sales director for Baci Lingerie USA, I have had the ability to experience three of the largest divisions in a store. I have the experience of all three of these different manufacturing jobs and this makes it easy for me to relate to what a stores carries, what sells and how to merchandise them.

What challenges have you confronted in your career in sales and how have you overcome them?

The biggest challenge is learning your line and where it fits in to the store and industry. The easiest way to overcome it: work, hard work and more work. Go out and sell it. Open it up. Try it on. Ask your friends, coworkers, family. Learn its strengths and weaknesses. And most of all – don’t take anything personal in sales. Just get it done.

What is your personal motto or mantra that you live by?

In the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

What career accomplishment are you most proud of?

Aside from landing a dream job with an absolutely amazing company, conquering public speaking. The first seminar I did in front of 50 people without fear was a pretty incredible moment. And being told I was one of the best afterwards — well that was pretty cool too.

What are your goals for Baci Lingerie USA in 2012?

I’d love for Baci Lingerie to have a strong sales representative in every region in the U.S. There is nothing more important than a strong sales staff and people who care about what they do, and who they work with. Know anyone good?

Tips for Promoting Inclusivity, Accessibility in Adult Retail

Walking into an adult store or browsing a retail website should feel like an invitation — an open, shame-free space to explore pleasure and identity. But for many of us, that’s not the reality. As a queer, nonbinary and physically disabled person, I’ve spent years navigating physical and digital spaces that weren’t built with people like me in mind.

The Power of Authenticity in Selling Pleasure Products

I’ve been working in the pleasure industry for more than two decades. For a significant chunk of that time, I thought that to be successful in sales, I had to fit a mold. I assumed that selling meant following a formula: say the right things, use the right voice and present myself in a way that was guaranteed to convert.
